Mission Synopsis

Technology has had a dramatic impact on exploration in the 21st century. Modern day explorers now head out into the field armed with a slew of devices designed to keep them in contact with the outside world at all times. Accomplished mountaineers say that there are 10 Conditions for Success on an expedition to Everest.

  1. Technical skills (rock climbing, walking with crampons)
  2. Fitness at high altitude
  3. Great Team work & Trust
  4. Effective Communication
  5. Camp Craft
  6. Weather Awareness
  7. Good Nutrition
  8. Mental tenacity
  9. Respect for the local culture: working with your Sherpas
  10. Navigation & map reading skills

On this mission, you’ll get a taste of life at Base Camp by getting ready for your own Everest expedition. In the space of a week, you’ll have to set up camp, build a radio communication system, program your own LED torch, and get to grips with electronics to construct your own transport rover. Your objective will be to be as self-sufficient as you can. As you familiarise yourself with your expedition, you’ll also get to explore the culture of the Tibetan people.

A FUN WAY TO EXPLORE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY APPLIED TO AN EXTREME SCENARIO. WILL YOU SURVIVE AND THRIVE?

Please note that our daily itinerary is a guide, and some activities may need to be changed or rescheduled when circumstances occasionally make it difficult for us to run them, including poor weather. We’ll always do our best to offer enjoyable alternatives and, wherever possible, run the planned activity on an alternative day.
