Generation Atlas is all about creating the future. During the week, your challenge will be to develop your own label with an eco-conscience spin. You’ll work with a variety of textiles, design a logo, learn about the retail market of the fashion industry, discuss your key demographic and plan how to effectively market your clothing brand.
But here’s the challenge - can you make your brand as eco–friendly as possible?
Did you know that polyester takes more than 200 years to decompose? And that 80 billion garments are bought around the world every year?! As the second-biggest polluting industry in the world, fast fashion is harming our planet, and we’re going to be the generation that fixes it! On this mission, you’ll discover materials you’ve never heard of - did you know you can make leather from waste mangoes and fabric from pineapple fibres?! You’ll also experiment with cotton plants, silk worms and wool straight from the sheep!
During the week you’ll create eco dyes using natural products like onion skins, foraged plants, coffee and seeds, and you’ll learn how to upcycle clothing using visible mending with embroidery and patchwork. Discover how to use fruits and vegetables to create stamps for printing, and get inspired by nature as you master the art of needle felting to make your own animal brooch.
As the week progresses, you’ll design and build your own pop-up boutique to display your brilliant creations for your family and friends to see, and maybe buy their favourites!
Are you ready to kick-start Generation Atlas? What are you waiting for?!
Please note that our daily itinerary is a guide, and some activities may need to be changed or rescheduled when circumstances occasionally make it difficult for us to run them, including poor weather. We’ll always do our best to offer enjoyable alternatives and, wherever possible, run the planned activity on an alternative day.
