This certified CPD course is designed specifically for SENCOs working in school and nursery settings who are looking for practical, inclusive ways to support children with SEND. It is rooted in the core principles of Forest School and draws on the well-established benefits Forest School offers for pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including improved regulation, engagement, confidence and wellbeing.
The course also explores the importance of nature connectedness and why access to natural environments can be so powerful for children with SEND. As part of the training, you will be supported to think creatively about how nature can be accessed within your own setting — whether that is through your own outdoor spaces, local environments, or small, manageable changes to everyday practice.
By bringing these elements together, the training will support you to develop a clear, achievable strategy for using nature-based approaches to support children with SEND across your setting. You will leave with a flexible, practical toolbox of interventions, activities, and strategies that you can begin using immediately. These will support you to respond to individual needs, reduce barriers to learning, and create calm, supportive environments where children with SEND can feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn.
This course is particularly valuable for SENCOs who are looking for approaches that support regulation, emotional wellbeing, and inclusion in a holistic way. You will leave with a deeper understanding of why nature-based practice works, alongside the confidence to advocate for its use within your setting and to share this understanding with colleagues and leadership teams.
By the end of the course, you will have gained new ideas, increased confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose in your role, along with realistic, sustainable approaches that benefit both staff and pupils.
