“At some point, everything’s going to go South on you. Now, you can either accept that, or you can get to work. You have to solve one problem, and then solve the next problem, and then solve the next problem, and if you solve enough problems, you get to go home.”
- Astronaut Mark Watney aka Matt Damon “The Martian”
In the space of a week, you’ll have a go at life on Mars and explore a raft of survival skills from bushcraft to botany, science to engineering, resilience to inventiveness to succeed against the odds. You’ll have to adapt, improvise and overcome to make it home… The challenges you’ll take part in will include learning how to build a space blanket emergency shelter to keep you warm, practising your fire lighting skills with the little oxygen left in the wreckage of your spaceship, making charcoal, one of the most versatile of survival tools, learning all about hydroponics and Martian greenhouses to grow food, turning condensation into drinking water, creating tools from scavenged materials and using them to plan your way home, and learning resilience techniques from ISS astronauts!
