Imagine a mountain of exquisite beauty, where dramatic peaks reach for the sky, and steep slopes covered in mystifying forests transform into ancient volcanic ravines. Where diverse wildlife have lived for over a thousand years, and freezing winds pelt the landscape. Sounds pretty unbelievable, doesn’t it? Well, think again. Welcome to "The White Mountain"!
This week, you’ll take a deep dive into the fascinating culture of Japan, full of harmony, respect, beauty…and awesome bushcraft! You’ll whittle your own Japanese survival knife, build a floating shelter, light campfires, learn how to make hatchets and use them skilfully, and master the expertise needed to survive in the Haku Mountain wilderness. And when you’ve worked up your appetite, you’ll cook delicious tonkotsu ramen, and soba noodles with cod fish over the campfire.
The Japanese are famous for living in harmony with nature; you’ll discover the art of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) and the magic of being quiet amongst the trees. You’ll also learn about forest medicine and the ancient art of bonsai. You'll have a go at holding a tea ceremony, and throw your own hanami party complete with personalised origami cherry blossoms!
It’s time to immerse yourself in a fascinating culture and test your resilience in one of the most exciting places on Earth.
