Over 500 years ago, chivalrous knights lived in the kingdom. They were loyal and respectful defenders of the weak. They fought bravely and with skill, riding into battle, proudly wearing their heraldry alongside kings and emperors of old. Stretching far and wide their campaigns of conquest brought much glory as well as hardship. They were attended by squires, young people who, having served as pages, progressed to this final stage from whence they hoped to become knights. During the Accolade, or Knighting ceremony, knights were dubbed by royals in an ancient ritual, surrounded by admirers, flooded with praise, showered with celebrations….
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?! Well, how about having a knight’s adventure of your own?
This week you’ll have the chance to prove your worth as a squire as you work towards knighthood. Each day will bring different challenges to make sure you’re ready for the promotion! Design your own heraldry with personalised shields and banners, whittle a spear to prepare you for battle, and test your endurance in the ultimate obstacle course. Can you follow the clues and crack the codes to find the holy grail? Will you ace the Qualifiers Quiz to show you know your stuff? How about trying your hand at metalwork by making your very own pewter pendant?
At the end of the week, you’ll be honoured in the distinguished Knighting Ceremony. And then it’s on to the lists for an epic jousting tournament followed by a celebratory feast of venison sausages and mead (non-alcoholic of course!).
Fancy joining a quest like no other? Could you be the next Lancelot or Joan of Arc? Take your place amongst the finest squires in the land and rise to the challenge!
