Abandoned in a post-apocalyptic world with only limited resources, your task is to build a utopian Escape Room to test the skills, resourcefulness and endurance of those closest to you… How welcoming it might be is up to you!
Using ideas and techniques from video games you will create an Escape Room challenge in the real world. Designed to test anyone who enters, this outdoor room will be filled with unsettling objects, clues, puzzles and codes to challenge your players’ powers of observation and problem-solving skills. To achieve this, you will create a series of interactive devices that can reveal secrets, test your audience or throw them off the track completely!
You’ll learn how to use sound, light, touch and maybe scent to encourage your audience to interact with your objects. You’ll experiment with mechanisms such as hydraulics, false bottoms, revolving props and secret ink. You’ll also have to make the most of the technology available to you to trick your players. You’ll discover the power of a visual language to transport your audience to your chosen world and will explore how gaming theory can help you identify goals, feedback systems and rules within your interactive objects and larger experience.
On the last day, your friends and family will be invited to enter the Escape Room you have built: will they thrive in this new world?
