Our post-training CPD Refresher Days are open to Forest School practitioners looking to further their practical skills or who feel they would benefit from a little confidence boost. You do not have to have completed your initial training at The Hive to join the course.
The "Fire & Cooking" CPD Refresher Day focuses on fire skills and building your confidence with a range of different fire and fire cooking projects. The course is designed to help you consolidate the skills you gained during your initial training, as well as introduce you to more complex projects to challenge yourself and the children you support at Forest School.
Our "Fire & Cooking" CPD Refresher Day is a one-day course running from 9am to 4pm.
The day will start with a brief review of your level of confidence with fire to make sure the day is shaped around your needs.
In the morning, the first session will focus on helping you consolidate existing skills. We will go over fire lays, types of tinder, fire lighting techniques and safety processes by working on 2 small projects: making charcoal and charcloth. The second session will introduce bare-hands cooking and a simple seasonal foraged food project.
In the afternoon, the third session will introduce you to more challenging cooking techniques, which you will get to practice by working on an individual cooking project. The final session of the day will focus on facilitation and exploring ways to lead more challenging fire and cooking projects safely with children at Forest School.
Following the course, all participants will be sent a small digital book of Hive recipes for use in their practice.
