Do you know that there are millions of asteroids whizzing all around our solar system? Can you guess how fast they travel? What do you think they’re made of? Do you believe they could have life on them? Well, this is your opportunity to find out…
Rumour has it there is an asteroid out there with a landscape that can sustain life: it’s called Asteroid B612. It’s home to three volcanoes, dozens of baobab trees, a single mysterious rose and 44 sunsets a day! It even has a young prince living on it!
What if there were other asteroids like this one? Hidden planets with great moons, spitting volcanoes, dense forest canopies, deep oceans brimming with life, vast plains populated by extraordinary fauna and puzzling creatures? If you could discover any planet, what would it be like?
With this mission, you’re going on a space expedition to create some pretty big asteroids! You’ll also have to decide what asteroid life is like: how do you breathe? Is it flat or full of mountains? Icy or covered in sand dunes? Jungle-like or desolate? What do you eat there? Where do you find water? And… WHO might live there?
To bring your asteroids to life, you’ll learn lots of exciting techniques: how to make giant spheres out of papier mâché, how to use print making to build landscapes, how to capture sun flares, how to create stop motion theatre, how to design a scenic backdrop, how to weave natural materials to construct props. As the mission progresses, you’ll also get to master the art of shadow puppetry: learning to design, make and animate the creatures you’ve invented to tell the story of your asteroids.
The mission will conclude with an exciting shadow puppet performance bringing the children’s asteroid voyage to life for parents.
