October 2020 Covid-19 Update

LATEST UPDATE: 25.09.2020

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, The Hive will not run in all locations this October. Following the re-opening of Covid-secure holiday clubs this summer, We have made the decision to only run a small October Half-term camp between 26th and 30th October at Eltham College.

This assumes that government guidance for schools, early years and childcare providers does not change. Our team has been working hard over the past few months to adapt our missions and develop policies and procedures that allow us to safely reopen our camps. As a result, we successfully ran 2 small camps this summer where we implemented a number of additional safety measures, including mission bubbles of 8 children, social distancing outside the bubbles and outdoors-only activities. We will continue to implement the same measures in October.

Introduction of the 6-person Restriction

The government announced on 9th September that from Monday 14th September, meeting with people from other households socially in groups of more than 6 was not allowed any longer. However, the government published a number of exemptions, including education, childcare and training settings, which remain unaffected, provided they have a Covid-19 risk assessment and Covid-secure processes in place. This allows us to run our camps in October.

Were the guidance to change, resulting in The Hive having to cancel camps, parents would be entitled to a credit note valid until October 2021 or a full refund.

Social distancing & Mission bubbles

We will be following social distancing rules and the latest government guidance for schools and childcare settings (as published on 1st July 2020).

In practice this means that we are implementing a number of key changes to the way in which our missions usually run. This will include (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Contact-free registration and pick-up
  • Staggered drop-off and pick-up
  • Ongoing use of hand-sanitizing gel throughout the day
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures throughout the day
  • Much smaller mission bubbles
  • Day-long mission bubbles for children, including break and lunchtimes
  • Five-day bookings only to keep children's groups consistent
  • Time almost exclusively spent outside (except for toilet use)
  • Strict social distancing measures for toilet use
  • Adapted mission activities to avoid contact and sharing of resources
  • Limited kit and limited sharing of kit (shared kit will be disinfected throughout the day)
  • A pause on the Friday showcase
  • Compulsory collection of NHS Test and Trace data, kept for 21 days
