In this week-long mission, you will learn the basics of engineering by designing, building and testing pedal-powered go-karts in small teams.
Your mission will start with a large pile of materials: wood, pedals, timber, nuts, bolts, screws, wheels and more. Supported by professional makers, you will sketch out initial ideas and designs until you’re ready to start prototyping. Using 3D drawing apps, you will design, make and refine your prototypes until you’re ready to start building at full scale.
You will be working with drills, saws, and other basic hand tools. Skills acquired in the mission will include designing, measuring, tool use and tool safety, construction and engineering basics, and teamwork!
The week will end with some exciting driving challenges. Everyone will get a copy of the model plans to take home.
